150th ANNIVERSARY HYMN                                                                (Words: Robert Westgarth - Music: Brian Beresford)

Rejoice good people, sing and pray and celebrate with song this day
Our hearts are full of joy and care. We feel You near, for You are there
To guide and teach us every day, the words that Jesus has to say.
Ring out the bells and gather kin – all God’s people welcome in.

The Church stands strong and broad and high, the miners built it, the reason why
For Christian folk to sing and pray within its walls, then as today
The years have passed, the miners too – they built it well for me and you.
Ring out the bells and gather kin – all God’s people welcome in.

A remnant of the faithful few still gather in to fill the pew
And pray that younger ones will stay within the faith to show the way
To bring us daily nearer God, the way our faithful feet have trod.
Ring out the bells and gather kin – all God’s people welcome in.

A MESSAGE FROM JENNY GILL                                                           (Superintendent Minister - East Durham Circuit)

Dear Friends

Happy Birthday to you all.  I can't quite imagine what 150 candles on a cake will look like; it will need a huge gust of wind to blow them out in one go as is supposed to happen.

1857 was a good year.  Let me tell you a little about it...

1858 was also a VERY good year because it saw the completion of the building of Union Street Chapel and what's more the building and it's people have been proclaiming the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ ever since.  There's probably no one around who remembers the opening but I hope there will be many in Hetton and the surrounding area who have cause to give thanks for this very special celebration.  May I wish you a Happy Birthday and every blessing for your future work in His service.

Yours in Jesus Christ                                                                                            Jenny Gill
